Sunset Station – “Video Star”

/

Nocturnal synth flourishes, moody guitar twangs, and a post-punk bass pulse envelop on “Video Star,” a recent track from Salt Lake City-based band Sunset Station. The act notes early ’80s music having an influence, and particularly Faith by The Cure. As such, there’s a lovely and seamless contrast between the verses’ gloomy steadiness and a more expressive chorus, where multiple vocal layers and effervescent synth tones mingle with heartfelt captivation; the debonair title-referencing ascent plays with especially immersive qualities. “Video Star” is a stirring, stylish success from Sunset Station.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
