Los Angeles-based band Social Gravy unleash a powerful alt-rock/pop intrigue on the track “California.” “This town will make you or break you, don’t say I didn’t warn you,” the vocals escalate in a gripping, replay-inducing sequence — where twangy guitars ring out as ooh-ing backing vocals enchant. A title-touting refrain lends a triumphant, anthemic quality into the “what it means to be free,” introspection within the verses.
