Sarantos – ‘Rain Guitar’

The 21st album from prolific Chicago-based artist Sarantos, Rain Guitar showcases his knack for affecting songs with explorations of love, resilience, and personal discovery. Ranging from moody rock intrigue to vibrant pop productions, with doses of ’80s nostalgia apparent at points, Rain Guitar consistently impresses in its genuine songwriting — full of sincere emotion and satiating structural rises.

“You accept my flaws,” heartfelt vocals pour out on the album’s opening title track. Tender guitars melodically complement introspective lyrics, ascending into the “you’re my rain guitar, steady and faithful,” hook — gripping with its lush and harmonious dose of emotion. “love is LOVE!” follows cohesively, furthering sentiments of love — “now you’ve given me the gift of a wedding…” — alongside elegant piano and romantic string-laden accompaniments. Urgings to seize the day, and treasure moments together, are moving; the track would make for an ideal wedding-day playlist addition.

The heart-on-sleeve songwriting continues to impress throughout. “Let’s Summer” moves into a spacey synth-pop realm. “My body is your body,” the hook dazzles, cementing elements of unity and love within a more sensual pull — “nobody can touch your body like me.” “Tongue of Fire” is another highlight, asking “why is your tongue on fire?” within an array of melodic keys, burgeoning strings, smooth saxophone elements. Rain Guitar contains a variety of quality, emotively compelling songwriting from Sarantos.
