A no-frills, debonair rock ‘n’ roll attitude compels throughout Disenchantment at a Distance (REDUX), the new album from Dallas-based artist Paul Bibbins. His EP of the same name released last year, impressing with its blues-rock suaveness and overall quality songwriting. Disenchantment at a Distance (REDUX) contains the EP’s four tracks, while also unveiling five more tracks.
A smitten entrancement takes initial hold on opening track “Bold, Beautiful…and Long Gone!” — recollecting one’s beauty, while marveling at their confidence and charisma. Bluesy guitars and a spoken-word feeling advance seamlessly — “she was cold, bold, and beautiful,” — that also captures the fleeting nature of some relationships/infatuations. This gem is among the previous EP tracks, and the new tracks continue to impress as well. “Up 25 High” comes next, with youthful lyrical look-backs pairing with sweltering guitar work for another memorable production.
Album finale “As Love Rears its Pretty Little Head” is especially impactful; the Jimi Hendrix likenesses show especially well there. “Love is always in demand,” Bibbins lets out, his debonair vocals melding with expressive guitars in enveloping form. Disenchantment at a Distance (REDUX) follows up Bibbins’ prior EP with more satiating blues-rock ardency.
