Headspace Station is a lushly impactful ambient album from LOGICA ABSTRACTA, the project of New York-based artist Vadim Militsin. The release compels in its more spacious atmospheric reveals, compared to the more granular nature of earlier releases. Headspace Station feels very much like the accompaniment to a chilling sci-fi film, and in turn brings in listeners with an otherworldly intrigue.
“Ad Astra” opens aptly with a spacey shimmering. The spacious soundscape is propelled by an effervescent synth swell and climactic phaser-like effect, casting ample engrossment into the subsequent, more rhythmically inclined “Nubium.” There, hypnotic percussion pairs with hazy synths and sporadic guitar trickles for an alluring result; the vibe here resembles a tranquil jungle, rather than the outer limits of space, and the album consistently excels in such dynamic atmospherics within a consistently riveting ambient production.
The album continues to impress thereafter, across multiple realms. While some efforts tout a more conventional ambient unfolding, “Insularum” enthralls with its initial fragmented glow — then evolving into a series of glimmering electronic effects and beautifully clanking percussion. “Tempe Terra” is another standout, emphasizing rhythmic consistency alongside warbled electronic tones, while “Numquam” embraces a minimalist eeriness in its quaint keys and concluding textural hints. Headspace Station is an atmospheric delight, through and through, from LOGICA ABSTRACTA.
