Virginia-based artist and producer Caleb L’Etoile crafts a spirited art-pop excitement on “Lightning Curses,” a track from his newly released album, You Gathered Friction. Its lyrics reflecting a “catastrophic break up,” “Lightning Curses” builds intriguingly from hypnotic wordless vocal segments, reminiscent of Animal Collective in their rhythmic role. Clanging percussion and guitar distortion enter thereafter, after the vocals ask “what am I to do?” A stirring range of soaring vocals and rhythmic entrancement follow thereafter, maintaining a glowingly melodic pull throughout.
