Athena Lim – “Madrid”

/

A stirring folk track with emotively rising vocals and strings, “Madrid” is a recent single from Athena Lim, a Canadian, UK-based artist. The release represents the second single from an upcoming LP, which Lim is collaborating on with multi-instrumentalist and producer James Atin-Godden. The peppy, melodic “White Dust” caught our ears this past March, and Lim continues to excel with sharply melodic songwriting.

“The sun is setting on Madrid,” a calming vocal introspection lets out, as flourishing layers of trickling acoustic guitar build into twangier additions and piano-laden lushness. “I can’t forget your sweet face,” continues a sense of reflective adoration, ruminating on setting suns and “memories slipping away,” as glimpses of strings arrive. A more piano-led pulse emanates at mid-point, assuming a lusher quality amidst gentle acoustics as the vocals declare a satiating “sun sets on Madrid,” finality. “Madrid” continues an impressive string of releases for Athena Lim.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
