Tonneau – “Here we go again”

/

An exploration of the songwriting process within a song, “Here we go again” is a magnetic new track from Amsterdam-based trio Tonneau. A timeless-feeling folk intrigue shows within, drawing from old bebop influences and Nick Cave’s book Faith, Hope, and Carnage — which Tonneau describe as “how the writing process is something you need to just do. Not to wait for inspiration, but get yourself together and start writing.”

A title-touting vocal refrain intertwines with frolicking acoustics for a spirited backing; the latter assumes a wordless harmonizing at points thereafter, as the personality-filled lead vocals escalate in enthusiasm. “Another song, it can’t wait any longer,” they soar into the memorable mid-point. “Everybody is allowed to sing along.” There’s an inviting, playful folk quality that persists throughout — encouraging to “make the best of your own song,” with radiant immersion as plucky strings enter alongside and a choir-touched chorus emerges. “Here we go again” is a charming success from Tonneau.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk. Stream the playlist below:
