Rob Dobson – “Esoteric Pantomime” + “Flange”

/

Los Angeles-based musician, producer, and mastering engineer Rob Dobson enamors with a heartfelt Americana sound on “Esoteric Pantomime,” a track he wrote during the Covid lockdown — and reflective of the struggles brought on by that period. Solemn acoustics complement relatable sentiments — “try not to watch the news,” — amidst aspirations to shut one’s mind off. Piano complements the rousing title-referencing rise, compelling with a warmly melodic charm. A burst of guitars soar amidst stutter-y backing distortion thereafter, driving into a satiating final minute.

Another success, “Flange” features Dobson and Japanese-born, Los Angeles-based songwriter Yohei. His vocal work and Japanese lyrics pair with guitar-driven mystique for an enchanting overall sound. Quivering vocal passion arises into a reveberating, rock-forward ascent — with a lovably twangy, psych-touched guitar character apparent throughout. The track marks the third collaboration between Dobson and Yohei, and they certainly show a tendency for crafting excellent songs together.

The standout tracks comes via Dobson’s new album, Be Easy, streaming below:

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
