A compellingly experimental hip-hop prowess shows throughout VOX 1, the new vocal album from POINT3NINE. Debonair, introspective vocal precision melds with an eclectic array of beats — ranging from distortion-heavy rock invigoration to the cinematic trickling within “Monitor.” The distorted edge on “Take a Blow” reminds fondly of JPEGMAFIA in its vocal ferocity. The debonair beat on “Monitor” is enthralling, and the foreboding fuzz of “Flyin High” is another standout. The EP represents the first vocal release for the project, and it thoroughly consumes in its grimy atmospherics and tonal variety.
