Brooklyn-based solo project Oh Canal presents a compelling structural build on “Carefully” — venturing from acoustic-set quaintness into bursts of peppy rock and chamber-pop orchestration. Per the artist: “The core of the song is “overwhelmed by an ordinary fact”, the fact that you want something, something that will make you doubt why you came in the first place.”
A serene folk-forward disposition starts to expand past the one-minute turn. The “love more carefully now,” escalating momentum there captivates with its briskly melodic navigation, into a “you seem so sure,” clanging that reminds fondly of Field Music, particularly as synths and orchestral hints enamor across the second half. “Carefully” is another standout from Oh Canal, grabbing our ears prior with the track “Moth Song.”
