Lee Trent – “The Dashboard Incident” (feat. INNER VIEW)

/

Nashville-based artist Lee Trent emits a hopeful charm on new single “The Dashboard Incident,” melding a beautifully melodic drive with positive aspirations. “The song is about turning negative energy into positive change, a theme symbolized in the cover art,” Lee Trent, formerly Trent Woods, explains. “It reflects a near-miss experience from my past, when I almost drove off the road due to intoxication and negative thoughts.”

He continues: “That moment of self-realization marked the start of my personal transformation. The song also touches on overcoming addiction, unhealthy relationships, and loss, while emphasizing the importance of living in the present, being grateful, and not dwelling on the past or future. It’s about growth and new beginnings that everyone can relate to, especially now.”

A calming array of steady acoustics and hazy, shoegaze-friendly textures move into a quainter vocal emergence. “I should be good for myself, and do what’s best for my health,” the vocal introspection continues, stirring alongside lush piano and acoustic guitars. Heartrending string additions arise into the “perhaps we’ll see,” vocal contentment, compelling in its reflective prowess and yearning for connection — following personal tumult and a tendency to “drown in my own doubts.”

The escalating convergence of guitars, strings, and piano are masterfully interwoven within the memorable vocal presence, with shades of Michael Stipe in its tone. “The Dashboard Incident” is a strongly memorable showing from Lee Trent.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
