Lazy Scorsese – “Field Guide to Your Anxiety”

“Field Guide to Your Anxiety” is the latest single from Minneapolis-based band Lazy Scorsese, marking a thorough success following the band’s re-formation. They caught our ears back in 2021 with the track “Medicine Man 2.0” and album Resistance of the Soft Shells, and they haven’t missed a beat with their delectable blend of psychedelia, pop, and rock.

“There’s a weighted blanket at the foot of the bed,” a conversational vocal spirit intrigues alongside crisp guitar twangs, building with flashes of synths into a jangly guitar envelopment. Lush vocals and spacey synths intertwine delightfully there. The track continues into a series of melodic turns, particularly invoking a Talking Heads-esque vigor around the three-minute turn — where synths and jangly guitars alike impress in different spurts into a hypnotic vocal embrace. The band describe this new track as “a confident reminder that you are the captain of your own ship, while musically there’s an underlying tension that the whole ship could sink at any moment.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
