“Hold You Up” is a memorable new single from Austin-based band Intercom Heights, infusing warmly melodic guitars and synths within introspective vocal reassurances. The project says the track was “taken from experiences in the last year where friends working through unbelievably hard times needed support, often from a distance.” Intercom Heights formed in 2019, and comprises Josie Fluri and Harris Thurmond.
“You’re only human,” the vocals let out to open, melding with a buzzing guitar throbbing and nodding percussive glow that reminds fondly of New Order. Effervescent synths and melodic guitar ascensions pair with the vocal layers — admitting they “can’t imagine what you’ve been through,” — with warmly reassuring qualities. The two-minute turn is especially memorable, building from a brief sparseness in instrumentation to an anthemic melding of twangy guitars, pit-pattering percussion, and inviting vocal layers. A delectable guitar solo caps off this lovely sequence. “Hold You Up” is a wholly memorable success from Intercom Heights.
