A resonating alt-rock success from Los Angeles-based artist Gabe Wolf, “Sisyphus” embraces DIY production and personal lyrical introspection. The release compels in its acknowledgement of past mistakes, and a drive to embrace the things that brings one joy. Wolf turned 30 this past year, and that prompted some insightful self-analysis.
“One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made is that I’ve often waited for the thing that I want to fall into my lap, rather than going after them,” Wolf explains. “So the song is an admission of that, and a dedication to a life lived in active pursuit of the things I love, like making music.”
Strutting an audible appreciation for ’90s and early ’00s alt-rock, Wolf wastes no time on “Sisyphus.” An onslaught of riveting guitar distortion pairs with a wailing guitar line, as the consuming lyrical prowess arrives. “For thirty years,” Wolf begins, beckoning to the aforementioned drive to awaiting for things to fall into one’s lap, rather than actively pursuing them. “I’ve been patient too long,” the fervent vocals continue, cathartic in their acknowledgement to move on as heavy slabs of guitar arrive alongside. “Sisyphus” is an invigorating alt-rock success from Gabe Wolf.
