DPB – “Wonder Bells”

Celebrating the Christmas season with a festive and playful hip-hop direction, “Wonder Bells” is a recent track from DPB, the alias of David Paul Brooks. The track’s exploration of faith and its role as a guiding light melds with a classic Christmas-forward melody for an inviting sound, one that succeeds in its pleasant aesthetic and message.

A frolicking, playful orchestration — fit for a fairy tale — builds into a melodic re-imagining of the “Jingle Bells” classic. The lyrics enthuse in their spiritual jubilation: “He is Christ, he is born, he’s the king of kings,” the multiple layers envelop, easing into heartrending strings and a solo vocal drive. “I love him with all my heart,” the multiple layers re-emerge. The track’s hip-hop core is then revealed in the ascent to the two-minute turn, unveiling a dexterous rap flow prior to another playfully inviting Christmastime melody. “Wonder Bells” is a celebratory, seasonal success from DPB.
