Bright Like Stars – “Reeling”

/

A textured shoegaze vigor takes hold on “Reeling,” a new track from Bright Like Stars that comes via their upcoming album Reflections, out on November 29th. They describe that release as paying homage to various genres and bands that influenced the band, growing up in the ’90s. My Bloody Valentine is a prominent inspiration, as is the heavier rock edge of acts like Torche and Glia.

A murmuring guitar faintness quickly ascends into a warming array of distortion and lingering tones. The vocals ensue with a brightly enveloping allure, complemented by brisker rhythmic intensity in the final minute. The track excels in its dreamy yet energy-filled guitar and vocal pairing, resembling MBV certainly, though also a space-y appeal in the vein of Spiritualized, and with a persistent distorted ardency reflective of those heavier inspirations. “Reeling” is a thorough success from Bright Like Stars.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
