“Heavy to Hold” is a newly released track from Velvet Graves, reflective of “heartbreak and holding onto the past,” per the artist. Written during a tumultuous break-up, and travels between Philadelphia and western North Carolina, “Heavy to Hold” compels in its evident emotion — pairing dreamy vocal layers with steady acoustics and spacey synth adornments.
“The lyrics directly address everything that was going on down to the detail of length of my trip between states ‘9 hour drive til you’re back home,'” Velvet Graves explains. “The instrumental is very washed out as I intended to capture a dream like state and invoke nostalgia.”
The title-touting arrival is especially riveting in its distorted guitar swells and ferocious vocal outpouring, building upon the climactic acoustic/synth cohesion that precedes. “Heavy to Hold” is a gripping, emotively sincere success from Velvet Graves.
