The Pulltops – “Ain’t Home Anymore”

A hooky rock depiction of changing times and coming to terms with such, “Ain’t Home Anymore” is a resonating single from The Pulltops. The Milwaukee-based duo — comprising drummer Mark Pierret and guitarist Tom Crowell — continue a strong 2024, impressing with singles such as “3-2-1 Go!,” “Waiting Here,” and “Mission Control.” While these tracks vary in aesthetical choices, such as the prominence of synths or guitar tones, there persists a unified tendency for hook-filled, approachable productions. “Ain’t Home Anymore” is no exception.

Lyrical depictions of walking through a quiet town commences an introspective vigor, as acoustics and crisp vocals invoke an Americana nostalgia. The title-touting acknowledgement and a drive to look for clues for “the way it was back then,” combine with remembrances of past summer nights for a warming, nostalgic tone. Twangy guitars complement wordless vocal enthusiasm in the bridge thereafter, traversing into a harmonious blend of vocals into another “this ain’t home anymore,” conviction. The Pulltops continue to impress with radiant, thematically relatable songwriting on “Ain’t Home Anymore.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
