THE Astrolabe – “Lovers”

/

Melding futuristic themes with a riveting orchestral pop appeal, “Lovers” is a recent single from THE Astrolabe. Representing the project of Athens-based musician and producer Thanos Yamas, THE Astrolabe compels in its mixture of pop immediacy and lavish, cinematic-feeling productions.

The project has garnered an ample following since its December 2020 formation, with over 1.6 million YouTube views and 120,000+ Spotify streams. “Lovers” is a definitive continuation of that success, set thematically in the year 2125 and conveying the emotions of “Lovers” being rescuers and providing an escape from a negative world.

Plucky upright bass drives into alluring string-laden charm, invoking a spy-theme sort of nostalgia as Yamas’ debonair vocals emerge. “Rise and shine, hold me tight,” the vocals let out as brass-y effervescence appears alongside, set cohesively amidst peppy percussive flair and the continuing strings. A particularly enveloping sequence comes as the vocals exude “losing you,” with a melancholic intrigue, concluding with a final push of striking orchestral beauty. “Lovers” is a ravishing, emotively gripping production from THE Astrolabe.
