“Hold Fast” is an affecting new single from Shawn Brown, an artist based in Portland, OR. Acoustic-driven momentum builds with fervency into an impassioned, rock-friendly conclusion. The standout track precedes the upcoming EP, Into the Furious Light, out on Friday, November 1st. Featuring production by Grecco Buratto, “Hold Fast” is one of two new singles on the release. The beautiful track art, seen above, is from San Francisco-based photographer Joshua Sing, who also crafted the EP’s artwork.
Whirring guitar feedback develops cohesively into steady acoustic strums, as vocals emit a sense of preparation — “we leave in the morning / time is right to bury the shame.” The ensuing guitar chirpiness aligns well with the escalating vocal momentum, culminating in the “caught in a riptide,” depictions of tumult. A title-touting remarking envelops as subtle synth buzzing injects an additional warmness. The next arrival of this sequence, in the final minute, is bolstered by additional vocal emotion. “Hold Fast” is a stirring, emotive success from Shawn Brown — whose EP release on Friday we’re certainly anticipating.
