Lace Thief – “Sister of the North”

/

“I’ll follow you out to the north,” soaring vocals enthrall on new single “Sister of the North,” a success from Lace Thief. The Nottingham, UK-based project of Laura Dickinson showcases a stirring dream-pop production here, set amidst themes of distance and sisterhood. Dickinson’s vocals have an enjoyable tonal similarity to Beach House’s Victoria Legrand, particularly in its range from serene subduedness to soaring invigoration.

Warming synth buzzing complement the adoring lyrical captivation to start, embracing an open-road ambition into the thumping bass within the “if this is what you want,” expanding of emotions. Wintry key twinkles and spacey synth layers combine seamlessly, as the “let it all play out,” lyricism meshes well in giving way to emotions and further emphasizing the role of distance within powerful relationships. “Sister of the North” is a moving, dreamily immersive showcase in quality songwriting from Lace Thief.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
