Jonsjooel – “Somewhere Else Than Here”

/

The striking new track from Helsinki-based artist Jonsjooel, “Somewhere Else Than Here” combines atmospheric piano-driven production with influence from Jonsjooel’s jazz training, for a strongly memorable impact. Themes of escapism are conveyed in the gorgeous vocal presence, cohesively mingling within the layered, cinematic sound.

“I imagine the piano pattern being this other dimension of life where the spiritual world is bubbling around,” Jonsjooel explains, continuing: “‘Somewhere Else Than Here’ is my thought of how that space could feel like. In these egocentric and materialistic times I think it is vital to keep on searching that world beyond our eyes.”

A steady trickling of piano maintains a compelling momentum to start, traversing seamlessly into ghostly vocals that meld beautifully within the ardent piano clanging. Percussive pit-pattering arrives at mid-point, as vocals admit “I’ll be somewhere else,” with an otherworldly sense of escapism; the production is consistently hypnotic throughout in the cohesive blend of driving piano and soaring vocal emotion. “Somewhere Else Than Here” is a riveting, atmospheric success from Jonsjooel, whose forthcoming EP we’re certainly now anticipating.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
