Jesse Lynn Madera – “Sweet Pretender”

Nashville-based artist Jesse Lynn Madera unveils a heartfelt, melodic fusing of folk and Americana on “Sweet Pretender,” a standout from her recent album, Speed of Sound. We enjoyed the quality songwriting throughout that release, and are thrilled to premiere the lyric video for album track “Sweet Pretender” — emphasizing the emotive lyricism amidst scenes of a vintage cowboy bar. The grainy footage and scenes of jubilation provide a stellar accompaniment to the memorable track.

“You’re gonna lose me some place you can’t find,” Madera’s suave vocals let out amidst twangy guitars and warming keys, admitting during an ardent sequence that “I was once your dark secret.” The harmonious production and strong vocal work complement themes of heartbreak; the songwriting was prompted by Madera’s witnessing of a friend’s marriage falling apart. The introspective melancholy drives into a cathartic outpouring, ultimately emphasizing hope and freedom following tumult. “Sweet Pretender” is among the numerous highlights on Speed of Sound, streaming below:
