Jeff Christie – “One in a Million”

/

The storied career of Leeds-based artist Jeff Christie continues with his latest album, Here & Now. Harmonious, melodic introspection stirs throughout the approachable blend of rock, folk, and pop. He is also notable as the frontman for the band Christie, in addition to having his songs recorded by artists like Elton John, R.E.M., and Cliff Richard. A stellar career spanning over five decades continues to impress with this new album, and highlights like the track “One in a Million.”

A heartfelt assembly of steady acoustics, emotive piano, and lingering organs open into Christie’s warming vocal presence on this album standout. “One in a million, one of a kind,” he lets out, asking “how does it feel to be holding the wheel?” as twinkling piano and harmonious vocal layers escalate into a bouncier immersion. There’s a timeless character to the production and vocal presence, particularly as the “thunder and lightning,” bridge builds climactically amidst effervescent keys clanging — sounding parts Harry Nilsson in the vocal tone and organ usage. “One in a Million” is a heartfelt, melodic success from Jeff Christie.
