Denver-based band Ignatius Reilly provides a rollicking rock enthusiasm across new single “Acadiana Contradance,” stirring in its no-frills appeal and debonair overall drive. Twangy guitars, bursting organs, and suave vocals adorn the compelling production, marking a thorough success from the band. The track was primarily written by keyboardist Ethan Ice, who describes the release as “just a song that doesn’t take itself too seriously about living life to the fullest, and the characters that you meet on the road that show you the light.”
Inspired partly by Ice’s interaction with Col. Bruce Hampton at a musicians retreat in upstate New York, “Acadiana Contradance” invigorates with a good-time encouragement to relish life and its inhabitants. Rousing guitars drive into a dual-vocal immersion past the mid-point alongside perky piano bounces. The references to singing, dancing, laughing, and drinking further the sense of jubilation — reveling in the power of music and good times. “Gonna wake up soon, believe it or not,” anticipatory vocals let out, emphasizing the power of seizing the moment. “Acadiana Contradance” is a memorably fervent output from Ignatius Reilly.
