GRAVA – ‘Bite the Hand that Bleeds’ EP

Nashville-based artist GRAVA shows a commanding sound throughout the Bite the Hand that Bleeds EP. Stirring from the dark pop eeriness of the title track to the finale’s ambitious rock ascent, featuring both heavy distortion and string-laden majesty, the EP is a thorough success from GRAVA.

The EP’s opening title track immediately showcases the project’s knack for stylishly melodic savvy. “There’s only one way to escape the game,” vocal mystique emits alongside trickling synth momentum, culminating in buzzing momentum and pulsing guitars as the central hook arrives. The delectably eerie vocal tonal direction is particularly gripping as bouncing percussive/guitar interplay shows past the one-minute turn. “Villain” is another highlight, admitting “I had the feeling I’d be the villain in your story,” within an intoxicating dark pop engrossment, with enjoyable shades of grunge in the grumbling guitar ruminations.

Closing track “Holy Fang” continues the chilly, dynamic range — enchanting in both its autumnal nocturnal pop and swelling guitar distortion; the track thoroughly achieves in its rock-tinted vigor, and concludes the EP with invigorating satiation Bite the Hand that Bleeds is an enveloping EP with ample mood and melodic charisma from GRAVA.
