French Nancy – “Lovers”

/

Described as “a melancholic reflection on how people can find themselves,” “Lovers” is a resonating single from French Nancy. The London-based project melds nocturnal post-punk guitar tones with a rapid rhythmic pulse and rising vocal passion, certainly succeeding in their self-described pursuit of crafting “high energy songs for introspective moments.” They are certainly amongst the risers within the post-punk revival scene.

A peppy rhythmic pulse pairs with guitar tones invoking a glistening post-punk and jangly pop nostalgia, with shades of New Order. The vocals maintain a steadily debonair pace into more exuberant bursts of emotion, culminating past the one-minute turn into a consistently enthusiastic outpouring. “Lovers” compels particularly in its melding of punchy vocal escalations with a moody guitar reflections, set amidst a consistently dexterous percussive backbone. The track marks a melodic, replay-inducing success from French Nancy.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
