Cliff & Susan – “Waiting On You”

A memorable country-folk duet marveling at the beauty of discovering one’s true love, “Waiting On You” is another memorable track from Cliff & Susan. The Little Rock-based duo recorded the track at FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama; it features a number of acclaimed artists — including Clayton Ivey on organ, Andy Dixon on bass, Scott Todd on guitar, and Justin Holder on drums. Co-production from Spencer Coats and Cliff Prowse drives a memorable sound, spanning from rollicking saloon-set piano infusions to twangy rock guitar excitement.

Grabbing our attention a few months back with a stellar cover of Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic,” Cliff & Susan now showcase their catching own original songwriting. Lyrical laments on a hypothetical life spent alone conjures into the realization, that “waiting on you,” was the best decision possible. Susan’s debonair vocal presence follows alongside the organs, piano, and guitars — continuing the “search far, search wide,” ethos in “waiting on you to come around.” The songwriting conveys a sense of undying adoration and love, within a melodic Americana and country arsenal.
