New Jersey-based trio Birthright show an emotive rock charm on their new single “Say That,” developing cohesively from acoustic-laden “I don’t want you back,” remarks into more bursting rock ardency. They describe the track as capturing “a person’s inner monologue coming to life—a struggle to put down substances and reclaim life as their own.”
“That’s no way to act,” the vocals let out prior to an added dose of distortion. “Say that, I don’t want you back,” the initial verses return, adorned beautifully by a mixture of jangling guitar undercurrents and twangy, sporadic additions. The vocals re-emerge with an erupting charisma past the two-minute turn, culminating with satiating impact in reveberating guitar intensity and a final vocal send-off. “Say That” is a melodic, heart-on-sleeve standout from the emerging act.
