Belum – “Twins” (feat. Horace Andy)

/

A stylishly consuming sound shows on “Twins,” the debut single from Tel Aviv-based trip-hop duo Belum. Amalia Small’s dreamily immersive vocals complement a meditative rhythmic backbone, bolstered by synth-laden haunts. The track also features Horace Andy, noted for his solo material and work with Massive Attack. His “if I was a bird,” sequence exudes a soaring yet darkly enveloping quality, thematically conveying an advancement beyond captivity and into a free-flowing embrace.

“Twins” compels throughout in its affecting lyricism and atmospheric production, marking a very strong debut for Belum, with expectedly high-quality co-writing from Horace Andy. The ending sequence, with its blaring guitar drive and enthusiastic vocal punches, is especially memorable in its ardently climactic build, following an ascent that thoroughly impresses — from the initially lush contemplation to the “soaring,” bridge. “Twins” is a gripping showcase in production and has us firmly anticipating what’s next from Belum.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
