The August Arrival – “Camped Out”

/

Melding folk and rock within lyrical explorations of infatuation, “Camped Out” is a resonating new track from The August Arrival, the solo project of Yukon songwriter and vocalist Sara MacDonald. Steady percussion and twanging guitars lead seamlessly into MacDonald’s melodic vocal presence. “You’re camped out in my mind,” she sings. “And the wood that fuels the fire, seems to burn for all of time.” A sense of lingering infatuation is artfully conveyed.

The verses culminate enjoyably into a soaring “I don’t know why,” acknowledgement in the chorus. More ardent guitar buzzing takes hold in the subsequent verses, and the track carries a compelling momentum in general throughout; the heartfelt lyricism and folk/rock intertwining combine for a thoroughly gripping sound on “Camped Out.” We’re excited for the project’s upcoming full-length, Hillsides, out on October 11th.

MacDonald elaborates on the track’s themes and inspiration:

“The song ‘Camped Out’ was inspired by a podcast about someone using neurotherapy to get over an ex-partner. This resonated with me, capturing how people, ideas, and thoughts can consume us. Writing this song allowed me to explore my tendency to overthink and obsess while acknowledging the strange comfort that comes from hiding within those fixations.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
