Stars in Coma – “Aluminum”

/

A consistent crafter of effervescent pop successes, Swedish artist Stars in Coma impresses again with the single “Aluminum.” The breezy, twinkling success comes via the Malmö-based project’s new album We Were Already Islands. Songwriter and producer André Brorsson notes that the single initially started out as a “simple three-chord pop tune,” and since expanded into something more sophisticated — “eventually ended up sounding like a chopped-up DIY remix of a forgotten J-pop song,” he says.

Soulfully mellow keys open the production invitingly, quickly perked up by radiant keys and a playful bass-laden bounciness. “Every emotion is like aluminum,” Brorsson sings, exuding a heartfelt depiction of renewal and brand new beginnings. “Feels so good to not carry the weight,” the vocals let out relief in the glistening central chorus. “I hope tomorrow will come in broad daylight.” The track feels like an audible expression of reassurance, inviting the possibility of an open mind and personal rebirth. “Aluminum” is one of many highlights throughout the compelling full-length from Stars in Coma.
