Solomon’s Seal – “Circles”

//

Haunting acoustic trickles and emergent strings lead the gorgeous folk standout “Circles,” a new single from Solomon’s Seal. An escalating “and on,” vocal rise melds with slight rhythmic intrigue, culminating in a subsequent push of strings, plucky guitars, and elegant piano. The London-based singer/songwriter Joseph Giffard Tutt previously impressed with the band The White Russian, previously featured with tracks like “You Are” and “Sea Song,” and Solomon’s Seal certainly proves a riveting project as well with the ravishing “Circles.”

The track’s structural direction reflects a cyclical nature that also aligns well with the lyrical themes, dealing with endings within phases of life and relationships — in addition to the ensuing renewal involved in embracing the unknown. Tutt wrote the track almost entirely at the same church the song was recorded, following a relationship’s break-up. The production’s fusing of Spanish guitar with orchestral adornments and lyrical catharsis results in a sound that lingers memorably with its strong emotional core and sophisticated folk production. Produced with Iain Berryman, “Circles” represents one of several songs leading up to a debut LP from the project, which we’re now certainly anticipating.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk. Stream the playlist below:
