Plastic Tofu – “Sundowner”

/

Taking evident inspiration from punk and rock from the ’90s and ’00s, Chicago-based band Plastic Tofu invigorate on new single “Sundowner.” Recorded in Los Angeles, the track is described by the act as “an easy summer song about travel, a good time, and happiness.” The steady guitar tones and repeating vocal ardency result in an infectious, no-frills rock success.

Thunderous guitar distortion commences right away, unveiling a grungy sense of nostalgia. The vocals unveil a reflective “remember when,” refrain with a dreamier, melodic tint. “Here we are, seeing the ocean — I think it’s the ocean out there,” they continue with momentum, ruminating on the impact of time as the crunching guitars drive into the replay-inducing chorus: “sundowner’s on the run.” Plastic Tofu impress with an ardent, melodic rock passion on the memorable “Sundowner.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
