Nathan Plante – ‘Electric Birds’

Berlin-based artist Nathan Plante builds a chilly range of soundscapes throughout Electric Birds, a darkly gripping electronic journey that takes particular inspiration from natural phenomena. “From ripples on the surface of a lake to dramatic storm clouds and electric pulses, each track is an exploration of experimental sounds and structures,” Plante explains.

“Distorted Reflection” opens the EP with an intriguing ambience, resembling a muted train car traversing through the dead of night. A whirring momentum gradually expands into more ardent pulsing as the two-minute turn approaches, eerily enveloping in its swelling textural growth into a sense of starry-eyed effervescence. “Cumulus” follows with a consistently nocturnal immersion, where lonesome synth tones meld with what resembles creatures cawing in the moonlight. A bellowing, buzzing intensity emerges amidst wind-chimes in the second half, furthering the atmospheric spell.

The EP’s title track continues the captivation, embracing industrial-friendly haunts as buzzing synths skip around amidst growing doses of ghostly textural engrossment — resembling in-and-out frequencies of an otherworldly locale. Nathan Plante’s Electric Birds puts on a clinic in experimental electronic atmospheric immersion.
