Moonroof – “Buzz”

/

Philadelphia-based band Moonroof deliver an approachably dreamy rock sound with themes of modern romance on “Buzz,” expressing the desire to “just disappear inside a screen,” whilst searching for true connection; its observations on tech’s pervasiveness within modern relationships proves engaging amidst a catchy rock sound.

Wordless vocal lushness and bursting guitars craft a dreamy, introspective opening — as the opening vocals declare a sense of searching: “I’ve been searching for a friend / I need somebody who understands me.” The rhythm section is initially complementary, as grumbling guitar nostalgia — with shades of ’90s alt-pop — arises into the ensuing chorus.

Glistening guitars accompany the central hook, capturing the warm glow of a screen, without the complexities of a relationship: “The internet knows me better than I know myself,” the vocals conclude there, driving into a catchy “I feel the buzz,” bridge — reflecting a state of one’s phone buzzing, and how these digital crutches have become an element of modern society. “Buzz” is a poignant, melodic success from Moonroof.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
