The debut single from new project Mommy’s Little Rockstar, “Yesterday” swells from quainter vocal introspections into an intensifying array of distorted guitar swipes, reminiscent of Spoon. Part of a forthcoming 9-song album, “Yesterday” enamors in its debonair vocal drive and eventual piano-laden accompaniments. “She’s inside out today,” the vocal nonchalance exudes, yearning “I want you like yesterday,” into blaring guitar pushes past the two-minute turn. The roaring guitars traverse seamlessly into dreamy piano touches, into another “want you like yesterday,” sequence; the suave track is a fantastic kickoff for the project.
