Medalye – ‘No Love Lost’

The debut album from Tel Aviv-based trio Medalye, No Love Lost emits a melodic and dynamic rock appeal — quickly evident on opening track “Darts & Cards (Awaiting Home).” Lush vocal ruminations and jangling guitar tones craft an initial warmness, with shades of dream-pop and shoegaze. The mid-point escalates the vocal fervency and guitar distortion with seamless effect, leading into a title-referencing suaveness and ensuing guitar soaring. Medalye are certainly capable of tonally eclectic, climactic structural pursuits, and this fantastic opening track is precisely that.

A multitude of other highlights show throughout the album from Medalye, described as a “collaboration of songwriter and composer Max Medalye with the band passmurny, singer and songwriter ÉMAREE and the Arbat Records label.” The debonair rock strides within “Ripples” evolves cohesively into playful synth colors, while “Last Man on Earth” enamors with its spirited acoustics and twangy mystique. No Love Lost is consistently impressive in its ear-catching songwriting and diverse structural turns.

“Darts & Cards (Awaiting Home)” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
