A stirring electronic sound reveals itself on “Glittering Dreams,” a new single from Lucid Letters that embraces the viral “hit ’em” micro-genre. The “hit ’em” aesthetic was born from a dream had by Matmos’ Drew Daniel — where a girl at a rave described its parameters: “in 5/4 time at 212 bpm with super crunched out sounds.”
Lucid Letters stumbled across the genre via an Instagram post by electronic artist Galen Tipton. Lucid explains: “When I heard what Galen Tipton had made and read up on the origins of the track, I just knew I had to make something like it!” They continue: “The song is certainly a departure from my previous more pop oriented work, but it represents my love of experimental electronic sounds, and I’ve kept just a little of my voice so you know it’s me!”
An eerie assortment of illuminated synths and thumping percussion kickstart the track, concocting a soundscape fit for the dark depths of space. The rhythms assume a steadier pulsation thereafter as haunting vocals repeat “dreams,” with static-y immersion. Trickling synths then pair with the swelling percussion, dropping into a dexterous final minute with invigorating qualities. Full of stylish engrossment, “Glittering Dreams” is a riveting soundscape and melodic construction from Lucid Letters, providing one of the best takes on the “hit ’em” sub-genre yet.
