JJ Sweetheart – “This World.”

/

“This World.” is a twangy delight from Minnesota-based artist JJ Sweetheart, representing the first single from debut EP Watch the World Yearn. Heartfelt vocal rises and twangy guitar tones intertwine with ample intrigue; the escalating qualities are enjoyably apparent into the more expressive vocals at mid-point, and the guitar smatterings past the two-minute turn. “It feels real,” a passionate vocal refrain lets out, intensifying in enjoyable raucousness as the instrumentation remains balmy and reflective.

JJ Sweetheart represents a solo project for Jay Simonson, which he began in August. Simonson was previously a part of Howler (Rough Trade Records) and France Camp.

“The project and sound were inspired by soul-searching in the desert alone for three and a half months,” Simonson explains. “I hiked 1,000 miles and had a lot of time too write music in my head. When I came home I wanted to make a record with it but my other music projects did not seem like the right fit so I decided to start a solo venture.”
