Fuzzysurf – “Don’t Go Overboard”

/

A colorfully melodic production shines on “Don’t Go Overboard,” a new single from Fuzzysurf that resembles a tropical voyage in its vibrant pop instrumentation. The title-touting plea is accompanied by a stirring assortment of heartfelt strings, twinkling keys, and twangy guitars. The subsequent verses strut a more rock-minded charm with the buzzing guitar distortion and bouncing keys, exuding a fun ’90s nostalgia.

The Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based band have an upcoming album, Chameleons, and describe this track as aiming “to make the listener feel like a passenger on this voyage.” Guitarist/vocalist Sean continues: ” Initially influenced by an old Hawaiian record with a beautiful open 6th chord pedal steel sound, we also imagined dramatic scenes of storms and a string quartet on a sinking ship, and we sought to convey that imagery in our song.”

“We achieved a sense of seasick dread during the pre-choruses with foreboding REAL recorded string quartet arrangements, which then transitions to a burst of sunlight in the chorus with a rising lap steel guitar. This contrast captures the sea journey’s highs and lows. To add a confident, adventurous swagger to the verses, we incorporated a hip hop beat, creating a unique blend of styles.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
