Los Angeles-based artist Edie Yvonne impresses on her Girl Code EP, an engaging, dynamic showcase in quality songwriting and rock/pop aesthetical intertwining. The EP features production from ongoing collaborators Nicky Swedin and Cormac Liotta. “2 U” is among the EP’s highlights, unleashing invigorating guitar distortion amidst a dreamy vocal lushness; the aesthetic reminds fondly of acts like Stars and Kero Kero Bonito as a result, especially the latter as the vocals’ pitch escalate within the gripping chorus.
The preceding “Delusion” moves with a grooving unveiling, swelling from introspective smitten vocals — “you’re all I see,” — into an anthemic spell. The bridge is particularly infectious, as well; we dove in-depth into the track here. Showing a hazier pop charm, “Duh” compels in its mellow guitar tones and hypnotic vocal refrains. The EP consistently impresses across its six tracks, excelling from the synth-laden glistening of “Queen Bee” to the more raucous rock within “15 (When I Leave).”
