Chris Erasmus – “Shotgun”

/

Ranging from solemn folk introspection to soulful organ-bursting charisma, “Shotgun” is a resonating new track from London-based artist Chris Erasmus. “It’s about when you get to the point in a relationship or interaction where you just wanna explode, but instead you’re done – you just walk out instead,” Erasmus says of the single.

Erasmus’ eclectic background includes classical training, musical theatre successes, and a wide global influence — having spanned living in Cape Town, Australia, New York and London, in addition to his hometown of Zimbabwe. His knack for climactic, tonally diverse songs is befitting of such a diverse skillset.

“Shotgun” commences with a heartfelt singer/songwriting styling. “In slow motion my fears for you show through it all,” Erasmus admits, invigorating in history-repeating laments and a title-declaring exultation. “It’s never easy living on the run,” sweltering vocals exude there, complemented by a soulful, gospel-tinged backing choir feeling. A gorgeous bridge emerges in the ascent to the three-minute turn, revealing a serene take on the chorus, and then back into its fervent passion. “Shotgun” is a satiating success from Chris Erasmus.
