Abby Frenes – “Split In Two”

/

Oakland-based artist Abby Frenes melds R&B smoothness and hooky rock/pop pursuits on new single “Split In Two,” featuring production from Andy D. Park. The release is described as exploring “how trauma and mental health create barriers that pull us away from the present.”

“How do we take these blueprints,” Frenes’ enthralling vocals build into a climactic bridge, showcasing jangling guitars and soulful vocal immersion with captivating appeal, culminating in a melodically soothing title-touting entrancement. “I don’t wanna be anywhere but next to you,” they further admit, complemented by suave guitar trickles, thumping bass, and subtle key twinkling into the “I’m tired of being split in two,” outpouring. “Split In Two” represents a thorough success from the emerging queer and non-binary artist.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
