WILCKEN – ‘Stereo’ EP

The debut EP from German artist WILCKEN, Stereo spans four tracks that each represent “a different year and emotional state.” Lush folk, budding orchestral power, and electronic buzzing alike all take turns across this compelling release.

“Summer will come, winter will be gone,” hopeful vocal soaring conveys on “Seasons,” which opens the EP with a harmonious folk beauty; tender acoustics, frolicking piano, and season-minded lyrical poeticism converge with seamless impact. Bird-chirping effects and a soaring vocal presence in the chorus’ refrain combine beautifully, with shades of Fleet Foxes. The subsequent “Stereo” pursues another aesthetical realm to start, weaving buzzing synth intrigue into elegant piano.

The second half of the EP continues to stir, strutting a jazz-touched rock sound on “Past Midnight,” with shades of Radiohead, while the finale “Inhale” intertwines wintry piano and gorgeous strings with lulling vocal momentum. WILCKEN thoroughly impresses with an eclectic, melodic prowess throughout the Stereo EP.

“Seasons” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
