Transmissions – ‘Bo Simmo! Just About Got Away With It This Time’

Traversing through a variety of successful sounds, from spacey psych-rock to debonair folk-touched drives, Transmissions thoroughly impress on their new live album. Bo Simmo! Just About Got Away With It This Time finds the Liverpool, UK-based act excelling across dynamic structures and riveting energy — all captured in a spontaneously gripping live setting.

A compelling opener, “Yellow Moneywort” finds debonair vocals building around sporadic guitar pushes — expanding feverishly upon rhythmic pit-pattering as the one-minute turn approaches. A thrilling blast of squealing guitars unleash about a minute thereafter; the band’s tonal charisma is on display here, traversing brilliantly from the jumpy, sporadic initial movements into a second half propelled by a sense of frenzied, free-flowing excitement. “We’re on at 10” continues the high-energy, as wordless vocal passion guides into dexterous guitars and a punk-friendly lead vigor.

In a similarly melodic yet definitively more laid-back vein, “Blunt Axe” builds upon a jazzy rhythmic snappiness as sophisti-pop guitar jangles enter with elegance. “I gotta do it for my country,” a suave vocal captivation lets out during the magnetic chorus, complemented by Television-esque twangy guitars and a warming key backing.

Additional highlights include the late-night yearning of “Elaine,” with its evolution into a twanging guitar beauty, the eerie foreboding of “The Same Thing,” and “Beam of a Spaceship,” an instrumental rock tour-de-force with spacey synth infusions and momentum-filled guitar lines. Bo Simmo! Just About Got Away With It This Time is an enthralling rock success from Transmissions.

“Yellow Moneywort” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
