Robert Ross – “Drink ‘Em Down”

A twangy retelling of personal hardships, “Drink ‘Em Down” is a rollicking blend of folk and country from Robert Ross. The Canadian/Australian singer/songwriter sings a title-touting refrain, to “chase that hurtin’ out of town,” — conveying a palpable yearning and sense of heartbreak. “That don’t get her out of my head,” they continue, urging to “line ’em up,” and get the mind-numbing drinks ready. Perky piano and twangy guitars adorn the debonair vocal composure throughout, crafting an engaging sound throughout. The track was co-written with Canadian artist/producer Gil Grand.

“Mamma’s Song” is another recent track from Ross, written as a tribute to his mother, Betty Comeau. Responsive vocal harmonies and string-laden reflections combine for a heartfelt track, referencing “church on Sunday morning,” as organs kick in and cast a sense of warmness. Betty Comeau was a prominent influence on her son’s musical passion, and this plays as a beautiful tribute with gospel-touched influence. These two tracks have us anticipating Ross’ upcoming album, Better With Time.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
