richard peril fascia – ‘perfect richard’ EP

A new EP from richard peril fascia, perfect richard seamlessly melds debonair vocal deliveries with jangly guitar delights. The creative production embraces tape bouncing techniques and textured layering, achieving a “grainy and large sound” as intended. Utilizing a TASCAM Porta 02 and an old TEAC Reel-to-Reel, the EP boasts a mixed-down and mastered analog quality. “A big goal of this project as a concept piece is to live inside an ethos of low-effort maximalism, catered towards our ever-shortening attention spans,” the artist explains.

The compelling opening track, “cowboy music,” drives with twangy guitars and suave vocals, declaring “can’t forget about the cowboy music” with steady captivation. The vocals fade into an enjoyably warbled effect as the twanging guitars guide the track to its conclusion. The ghostly “computer girls” follows, melding brisk proclamations—”I’ve lived my whole life up on the sidelines”—with wordless vocal chills. The jangly guitar tones exude a Johnny Marr-esque intrigue, pairing with murkily infectious vocals for an enthralling aura and aesthetic.

A bass-heavy rumination takes hold on “boss,” further embracing vague vocal effects within a more bustling rhythmic outpouring. “bigger muscles” follows, sounding ideal for night driving with its clanging guitar crispness and slabs of distortion. The track fully envelops the listener with its nonchalant vocal lead and textured progression into squealing guitar tones, invigorating past the mid-point. “king of rap” showcases idolization, dynamically traversing from lush rhythms into the “jealousy’s a killer” opening line. “I wanna shake his hand because I’m his biggest fan,” the vocals continue, exuding a suavely intoxicating vigor.

From the jangling melodics of “computer girls” to the glimmering finale “portrait of elizabeth,” perfect richard is a gripping EP that fuses enjoyably left-field production with bouts of immediacy, particularly through its vocal suaveness and guitar tones. richard peril fascia thoroughly impresses with engaging songwriting and atmospheric intrigue throughout.
