A stirring single from Nebno, “Meradalir” unfolds with beautifully layered precision. Wordless vocal chills combine with hints of symphonic bliss for an enveloping introduction, perked up by illuminated piano as ethereal vocals emerge at the one-minute turn. Described as “an ode to rebirth,” the track envelops in its gorgeous strings, emotive piano touches, and sporadic vocal immersion — intertwining dream-pop, chamber-pop, and neo-classical intuition with seamlessly powerful effect.
The vocals’ more prominent push at mid-point combines with these orchestral elements for a sense of wintry elegance, showing shades of Björk in its riveting atmospheric unveiling. “Embrace your essence,” the vocals continue, aptly melding the ruminating instrumentation with vocals that are meditatively effective in their call for self-confidence and embracing of individuality. The fantastic track also releases alongside a music video, filmed 2000 meters above altitude in the Swiss mountains. Director and cinematographer Magnus Andersen visually captures the spacious, nature-forward inspirations apparent in the track’s soundscape.
Nebno is the alias for composer, musician, and producer Manon Schlittler, who is based in Zurich and Reykjavík. Her debut album Streams released in 2019, followed by Low Skies in 2021, and we’re excited to hear what’s next.
